Reaction Paper: Batas Militar

11:27 PM

During the regime of Marcos, freedom was hard to buy. Only the ones with power and influence will be able to do what they want. In his time, he used money, power and wit to take control of the people. Because he was a smart person, he was able to sit in his position as a president for a longer time. He was by far the longest person to reside as a president for 20 years using the presidential and parliamentary way of governing.
What he did in his time were great things, great but terrible things. One of which is the proclamation of the Martial Law which shocked the masses. They have just experienced getting freedom from the colonizers, but then Marcos just took it away from them that easy. His actions weren't that justifiable. Personal conflict and interest were one of the roots of doing that act. Abusive power of the military forces was prevalent. Common people were accused of what they didn't do. However, there’s a brighter side on what he did. He was able to make Philippines better by building the MRT/LRT and buildings, making the project “Masagana 99” and Philippines Health Care Program, having a low crime rate and being in one of richest country in Asia. Some people say that he is the worst president in the Philippines. On the other hand, many would argue that he is by far the best president in the country. He brought fear to the Filipino people but he made the country progressive. He was the person who used his power to do what he wants, but it also has a good effect to the people.
People judged him by the bad things that he had done but they didn’t even looked at those good things he had made. He was a wise president who wanted power and wealth. Who would even want it especially that you’re in the position? Even a regular person has done it in their life. With great power, one would be able to exercise a much greater act than the usual.
